Whitechapel was founded in February 2006 by Knoxville residents Phil Bozeman, Brandon Cagle, and Ben Savage. The band is named after the Whitechapel district in East London, England, where Jack the Ripper committed a series of murders. Whitechapel has been classified as deathcore, progressive metal, death metal, and groove metal. Their newest album, Hymns in Dissonance, was released on March 7, 2025.
